Data Landscape Survey

Before you begin

The Multi-Consortia Coordinating (MC2) Center Resource Coordination Hub at Sage Bionetworks is intended to promote data, tool, and expertise exchange among members of associated National Cancer Institute Division of Cancer Biology consortia, including:

  • Cancer Systems Biology Consortium
  • Physical Sciences in Oncology Network
  • Cancer Tissue Engineering Collaborative
  • Cellular Cancer Biology Imaging Research initiative
  • Metastasis Research Network
  • Patient-Derived Models of Cancer

To help Sage Bionetworks support resource sharing, we are requesting information on the types of resources that consortia members are producing as a part of their funded research activities. Contributing information via this form is voluntary and does not require your eventual distribution of resources.

Tentative resource curation process:

  1. Resources are generated and transferred to NIH-supported repositories (independently by generators or guided by the MC2 Center) or otherwise appropriate destinations compliant with the NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy
  2. Metadata describing the resource(s) are provided by generators and captured by Sage Bionetworks according to standardized models agreed upon by the community
  3. Sage Bionetworks stores metadata using the secure Synapse platform
  4. Resources are listed on the Cancer Complexity Knowledge Portal

Please note: Sage Bionetworks does not require datasets, tools, or resources for the MC2 Center to be stored via Synapse. Our goal is to help ensure data is FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) and housed in NIH-supported repositories. A list of supported repositories can be found here and NIH guidelines for selecting a repository can be found here.

For general questions about this survey, please contact .

To begin, please provide the information requested below. This survey should be completed as a single response for each grant, ideally by those generating or managing the data and resources for that grant. If you are working on multiple grants, please submit a form for each one.

Project information

Fields marked with * are required

Name of Principal Investigator(s) *
Please enter multiple PI names as a comma-separated list.

Email Address of Principal Investigator(s) *
Please enter multiple PI emails as a comma-separated list.

Grant Number
Optional, but recommended. If you are unsure which number corresponds to your current grant, NIH RePORTER can be used to identify your grant ID.

Name of Point of Contact (Resource Coordinator) *
Please provide the name of the individual you want us to contact with questions about resource sharing by your group.

Email Address of Point of Contact *
Please provide the email address of the individual listed as Point of Contact above.

Resource information

By providing information on the datasets, computational tools, and models you plan to share over the next 1-2 years, you will help us determine how we prioritize and support:

Directions for survey

Type your answers into the table cells below. Controlled fields will display terms we have on file when you begin typing. You are not required to select a term from this list if a suitable entry is not currently available. For each assay, tool, or model, please add a separate row to the corresponding table.

Datasets

Fields:

  • Label: A short, descriptive label for the dataset described in the row.

  • Assay: Controlled field; the assay used to generate the dataset that will be shared.

  • Format: Controlled field; the format used to store the shared data (e.g. txt, tiff, bam, etc.)

  • Sample count: The estimated number of samples for which data will be shared. For single cell experiments, each cell should be counted as a single sample.

  • Species: Controlled field; the species of origin for the dataset being shared. Human-derived data may require specific resource sharing considerations.

  • Data repository: Name of the storage service or repository where data will be housed.

  • Planned upload date: The estimated date by which you plan to upload data to the identified repository.

Dataset information

Please note: You may type answers, including “Other”, “Unsure”, or “Do not know”, into any fields as applicable.

Data Sensitivity Assessment

Please fill in the following to help us understand the nature of the data and help determine if additional governance forms are needed.

One or more of these datasets (select all that apply):

(1) Are derived from human subjects and require controlled access OR

(2) Are not derived from humans but for some other reason cannot be shared openly/need to be shared with restrictions on access or data use after the project period ends OR

(3) Are not sensitive (i.e., do not meet any of the criteria above), and can be shared broadly without restriction following the embargo period, if applicable OR

(4) I am not sure whether these data are sensitive.

For governance questions, please email .

Tools and computational models

Fields:

  • Function: Controlled field; the primary functionality of the computational tool or model.

  • Type: Controlled field; how the tool or model has been or will be implemented for access by other users.

  • Topic: Controlled field; general scientific domain the software or model serves.

Computational tool or model information

Please note: If you would like to share multiple components/interfaces or a tool (e.g., a web app, API service, and Python library), please add an entry for each Type.
